Alert Level 3 - School Closed Again

 Greetings all

It was with great disappointment that we acknowledge that once again school is closed to students.  This means that all additional meetings scheduled for this week including the powhiri, BOT meeting, pumpkin weigh-in and meeting for parents of 4-year-olds is postponed.

On Monday only the DP and Principal will be onsite to manage any queries that you may have.  Please be patient as we assist those before you and call ahead if you need to visit the school.

A set of general activities can be made available for students set according to their year level but parents are encouraged to use at-home experiences as this will lessen the need to 'be the teacher'.  These activities could include things such as board games, cards, being curious in the garden and local surrounds as you walk. Conversation about observations is learning - so are turn-taking and rules when playing games.

Should the lockdown be extended beyond a week, we will put into place opportunities to collect devices for years 4 - 8. For those students who already have their devices, their class sites have additional learning opportunities.

Once again

Be safe, stay well

Senior Run: Mission Bay to St Heliers

 Hi All

As we are now confident we're remaining on Alert Level1 this is just a reminder that on Friday as part of PE and Health the students will be going on the first of three runs for this year.

There is no cost and also no need to pack any special treats. When they arrive at school on Friday morning they will be loaned a special T-shirt in which to run. Please ensure that arrive at school by 8:30am.

The student bus leaves at 9:10am and we start the run at 10am. We'll be back at school around 1pm ending the day at 3pm as normal.

All are welcome to come and view the student efforts as they challenge the clock for the 2.4km distance.

Looking forward to meeting some of you along the way.

Message from Mr Hendricks

 Hi All

Due to the uncertainty around alert levels and if we're able to meet or not, we have decided to postpone the Meet The Teacher evening planned for next week as we'll far exceed the 100 person maximum attendance.

Instead, I have asked the teacher to call each family over the next three days.  So please expect a call from your child's class teacher.

On Thursday, expect a note home from your child's teacher that will give more detail about what happens at their respective teaching level and any activities planned for the class.

We will be going ahead with our powhiri for new Glen Innes School families. This is set for Wednesday 3 March at 12:40pm. If you missed out on being welcomed last year and you'd like to join us on this occasion, you're most welcome to do that.  Please meet me outside the hall at 12:30 on the day.

Stay well, be safe

Message from Mr Hendricks

Hi All

We are moving down to alert level 2 from 11:59 p.m. tonight. The huge volume of tests completed in the last few days has given confidence that if any further cases arise, they will likely be closely linked to these existing cases.
We therefore look forward to welcoming all of you back on site tomorrow, Thursday 18th February. This also means that all school calendar events - except the year 7&8 run will take place as planned.

Alert Level 2 still has some restrictions for our school with the main one being that everyone on site must follow and adhere to the expected hygiene practices we have in place. At all times, please continue to scan QR codes if you enter the building and monitor closely for illness within your whanau.

Our focus as always will be to support the learning, safety and well-being of our tamariki and we continue to be there to support you as well. Please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher or me if there is something with which you need assistance.

Be safe, stay well

Moving to alert level 3

Kia ora koutou, Talofa lava, Greetings all

Here is the letter sent out by the MOE to schools:

There have been 3 confirmed cases of COVID -19 in South Auckland. As a result, the government announced at 7 p.m. that the whole of Auckland will move from Alert Level 1to Alert Level 3 for the next 72 hours from midnight tonight.

This means that where possible you should keep your children home from school for this period. We will be open for those of you with no other options but to send your children to school and we will have safety precautions in place to look after them.

Although this is for a short period, at this time we are activating our distance learning plan tomorrow morning, as we did when we have been in previous lockdowns.

First and foremost we want to stay connected to you and your tamariki. COVID -19 continues to be a factor we need to consider, and I assure you we have a robust plan and will do everything we need to for your children and for your wider family and whanau.

If the situation changes, we will be in touch again. Please contact us if you have any concerns or questions.

Our first whole school lunch sitting

After a late start, due to late delivery, the entire school sat down to lunch in the hall. Your children displayed excellent table manners and had good conversations while at the table. It was wonderful to see the children sharing what they would not be eating with others. This meant that at the end of the session we did not have much food waste to throw out.

To help the smaller students get through their portions, the staff cut the chicken wrap in half which made holding the food so much easier. It was also quite entertaining to watch the senior students eat their muffins before the main part of the lunch!

Drink bottles are essential, as not all meals come with a liquid. Please try and get your child a refillable drink bottle as soon as possible. The idea of the lunchbox to carry away food for later was well used by many students, so keep packing in the morning tea goodies in a lunch box but remember - no packaging, please.

Welcome to 2021!

I do hope you have had an enjoyable break across the summer with your family. Finally, we’re ready to go and get all students back into learning.

This year we have already seen some new play area additions at school and by the end of term one, we will know more about the new classrooms that are being planned to be built as part of rebuilding the whole school!

Remember school starts tomorrow, Wednesday the 3rd of February tell your neighbours! Please remember that school-supplied lunches only start on Monday the 9th of February 2021. More information about this will be sent home soon. To those parents with special religious and/or dietary requirements, I'm able to confirm that the supplier has FIANZ (halal) certification.

We’d love to see you soon as an active part of the school community.

See you soon.
