Manaiakalani Film Festival 2019 - Friends

Kindness doesn't cost a cent, but it makes the recipient of that kindness feel like a million dollars. Kindness doesn't have to be a big, grand gesture - it can be something as simple as a smile...

Term 4 - Week 2: Ki O Rahi

This term students will be learning to play Ki O Rahi. The game of Ki O Rahi is based on the Purakau (legend) of Rahitutakahina and the rescue of his wife Tiarakurapakewai. The tākaro is a reflection of Tupuna story telling at its best, as well as provides an insight into the way in which they would explain and design Tākaro to reflect their unique "world view". The Papa Tākaro (field) layout of Ki o Rahi and the way the Tākaro is played is a perfect example of this. All lessons are on Wednesday after morning tea, feel free to pop by and play along!

We were really fortunate this week and we got to see 'Story Studio Live'. This production explored the concepts of culture and identity and what this means for Aotearoa, featuring the powerful and imaginative ideas and words of some of Wellington’s young people.

This experience has strong links to the New Zealand Curriculum through The Arts and English. Tauira will experience, consider, and respond to different forms of drama and theatre, actively engaging and interacting throughout the performance. They will see how sound, action and words are combined for a range of purposes, recognising connections between oral and visual language.

Reminders for next week:

'Reading Together'  starts next Wednesday. Please pop into the office or have a chat with Ms Webster if you need further info.

Term 3- Week 2: We Won!!!

A big thank you to all whanau who came out on Thursday evening, despite the horrible weather. It was great getting to chat to you about you child's achievements. Our class had the best attendance, I saw 21/24 families, that's well over 87%! As a reward, Room 10 will be getting pizza for lunch on Wednesday.

Hockey lessons started this week and it looks like we have some prospective Black Sticks in our midst. Hockey lessons will continue every Wednesday until September, 4.

National day of support for principals
The teachers and support staff of Glen Innes School are joining with their colleagues all over the country on 9 August to call on the government to give primary and intermediate principals a fair deal. And we need your support as we stand up for our principal, and all principals.
Teachers recently won pay parity with their secondary colleagues, because a teacher is a teacher, regardless of the age of their students. But the government refused to give primary and intermediate principals parity with principals of comparably sized secondary schools, or any support for growing workloads. In small schools, principals are doing a complex job but often without any extra support, and while teaching as well. And these principals are often paid less than some teachers in large schools.
We’re calling on the Government to do the right thing by principals. It’s only fair.
On 9 August, we’ll be wearing green to show the government our disappointment in their offer to principals Please come out and support the principals of Aotearoa, who do such a vital job leading the teaching and learning in our schools.

Reminders:
No need to pack lunch on Wednesday- we'll be having pizza!!!
