2018 Term 1 Week 5 - Electric Car

Last Friday two Glen Innes students received a very special prize - as the winners of the Year 7/8 writing competition, they were chauffeured home in a Tesla electric car! We all got to have a look at this amazing car of the future that didn't use petrol or diesel! You simply charged it like you would you iphone or laptop! As far as the appearance is concerned, electric vehicles look like conventional vehicles. However, there is one significant difference: electric vehicles don’t have a tail pipe. Although, electric and conventional vehicles look quite the same, there are many other differences that make electric vehicles truly unique. In a conventional vehicle, there is a petrol tank where the fuel is stored. This fuel is used to run the vehicle. An electric vehicle, on the other hand, doesn’t have a tank. Instead, there is a battery that supplies the electricity required to move the vehicle. This battery needs to be recharged regularly.
